Mawata Mittens

Silk hankies, otherwise known as Mawatas are made from degummed cocoons which are stretched over a frame. Each hankie consists of several fine layers, that when pulled and separated in just the right way, gives you a fine strong roving that you can spin or even knit without spinning. We will be knitting a pair of Luxurious silk mitts without actually spinning, building the yarn by pulling one layer at a time until you obtain the thickness you like to knit with. No spinning. Silk is about 4 times warmer than wool, so the mitts will be very warm, cushy, fluffy and very soft! This class is held over 2 days.
