Annual Fall Exhibition and Sale

Exhibitors     Brochures/BookMarks     Press Releases     Raffle

“More Than Cloth”, the Exhibition and Sale presented by the Ottawa Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild, will once again be held at the Glebe Community Centre at 175 Third Avenue in Ottawa. Opening night is 30 October from 4 o’clock to 8 pm and is a special time to shop, view the exhibitions and meet old friends. The event continues on Saturday and Sunday: hours on Saturday, 31 October are 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, 1 November from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free for the OVWSG Exhibition and Sale.

It is also important to note that free parking for the event is available behind Corpus Christi School located on the corner across from the Community Centre – good signage will direct you there.

This year the Guild is celebrating its 60th anniversary and throughout the year special events are taking place to celebrate this milestone and the Exhibition and Sale is no exception. The “60th Anniversary Challenge”, a juried exhibition, will be a featured exhibit. It is a collaboration of members representing different disciplines of the fibre arts working together to produce unique, creative finished articles. The public will be asked to vote on their favourite piece -- a “Peoples’ Choice Award” will be presented on Sunday afternoon. This exhibit will also be presented at the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners Conference and the Heartwood House Gallery, both being held in May.

The theme of the Exhibition and Sale, “More Than Cloth”, truly reflects the diversity of items offered for sale at this event. The public will be treated to a fine collection of fibre art work, wire woven jewelery, Christmas ornaments, handwoven linens and many fine fashion articles from high end stylish vests to creative hats for all occasions. There is no end to the type of fibres used in creating these well designed Canadian made products. Find the perfect gift for everyone on your gift giving list, including yourself!

Please take time to read the biographies of the participating vendors and view the photos of their work. I know that you will not want to miss this Exhibition and Sale and the opportunity to participate in the Guild’s celebration of 60 years of activity. Over the years the Guild has promoted handweaving and handspinning and has encouraged its members to work towards a high standard of craftsmanship and design, both of which are well represented at this event.
