More than Cloth – Goes Green!

The 30th edition of our Exhibition and Sale will once again take place at the Glebe Community Centre :

Friday, November 5 (4pm-8pm)
Saturday, November 6 (10am-5pm)
Sunday, November 7 (10am-4pm)

Oddly enough, we’ve always been green.

For millennia, before the inventions of electricity and the fossil fuel engine, humans have powered the spindle and wheel to create yarns; thrown shuttles to weave fabrics. After the creation of hooks and needles, hand power was still the main energy source in the making of cloth.

With the prominence of the petroleum industry, came an explosion of new and exciting synthetic fibres for us to play with. Since then, many of us have slowly returned to the natural fibres that our fore-mothers used – preferring more cost effective and earth-friendly fibres. Though progress has given us wonderful materials and techniques to explore – today, we are more mindful of their overall environmental impacts.

Here in Eastern Ontario, we are most fortunate. Our shepherds and shepherdesses grow some of the finest animal fibres on the planet. There are open fields and forests in which to hunt for plant species to spin, and materials to gather for our dye pots. We fibre-enthusiasts have one the best backyards for seeking out those raw materials in which to indulge.

This November, we invite you to come and join us in the environmental exploration of our craft. The choices one makes can have a positive impact on this planet we call “home”.
