Description: Combing is a fibre preparation method used to produce smooth worsted style yarns. In this hands-on workshop you will learn several techniques to using mini, handheld and stationary combs, even your own handcarders to prepare different fibres into combed tops ready for spinning. Time permitting we will use the blending hackle to turn combed tops into multi-coloured rovings.

Prerequisite: Spinning 2 – Wheel or able to spin a continuous yarn on a wheel

Students should bring: A well-tuned spinning wheel, and wool combs and hand carding tools you may have. Please wear solid shoes (no sandals).

Materials fee: approx. $30: various grades of washed wool (natural & dyed), mohair, dyed roving.
