Lazy kate for plying

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Description: You have control of your singles, now master plying them into even, balanced yarns. This skill is a prerequisite for the unbalanced plying techniques that are the basis for many novelty or art yarns. We will practice a variety of techniques for 2, 3, and 4 ply yarns from bobbins and balls, discussing why we ply and planning for plying. Time permitting, we will begin to explore some of the basic novelty plying techniques. Preparation: Students will be asked to prepare several bobbins of specified singles yarn from supplied fibre (pick up at April meeting) to bring to the workshop. The instructor will be available in early April to provide guidance.

Prerequisite: Spinning 3 or equivalent experience. Able to spin a consistent single to a specified wraps per inch and twists per inch

Students should bring: Spinning wheel in working order, lazy kate if available, at least 4 bobbins (some may be storage bobbins). Guild wheels are available free of charge from OVWSG rentals and can be picked up at the March meeting. NOTE: a deposit cheque payable to OVWSG of $500 is required for wheel loan (will not be cashed if wheel returned on time in good order).

Materials fee: $10 includes fibre and sample mounting cards
