2415 Introduction to Dukagång Tapestry

Description: In this workshop students will learn hexample of dukagång tapestryow to weave the Swedish inlay technique dukagång.

The class will begin with a short presentation about dukagång, with in-class examples of work made using the technique and an examination of the weave structure.

The students will then learn how to weave dukagång by weaving a series of samples. As part of this exercise students will learn how to add dimension to their samples by using colour, texture and shape.

Students will also learn about the various ways to finish and completed project.

By the end of the class students should feel comfortable and confident in the technique to tackle their own dukagång project.

Prerequisite: Must know how to make a warp and dress a loom independently and weave following a simple treadling pattern. Intro to Weaving – Table Loom or equivalent

Students should bring:  Students should come to the workshop with a 4-shaft loom, dressed with a 3-yard warp in standard threading (straight draw 1-2-3-4) of 2/8 cotton, 12 inches wide set at 20 epi in a dark colour of their choice.  Enough of the same colour 2/8 cotton to weave off the warp, bobbins and shuttle, 2 additional spools of 2/8 cotton in contrasting colours different from the warp.

(NB: Table looms may be borrowed from the Guild for the workshop.  Arrangements to pick up a loom must be made with the Weaving Rental coordinator rentals@ovwsg.com well in advance of the workshop.  A refundable deposit, in the form of a cheque, is required in order to remove equipment from Heartwood House. Non members using guild looms MUST return them at the end of the workshop.)

Students should bring with them a selection of cottons of various weights, colours and textures for weaving their samples and that they would be willing to share with other students.

Students may also wish to bring sewing and metallic threads in various colours.

Students should also bring a notebook, a ruler, pencils, colour pencils, a sharpener, an eraser, scotch tape, scissors, several sheets of large scale graph paper (4-5 squares per inch) and a small mirror.

NOTE:  RESERVED tickets are only to be used by individual’s directed to do so by the Registrar.  Any other registrations with a reserved ticket will be cancelled and the registration fee refunded LESS the PayPal transaction fee.
