Description: Overshot is a twill-based weaving structure that is woven with two shuttles. One shuttle weaves the ground cloth while the other creates long floats and half-tones. In this workshop, students will learn how to weave overshot as star and rose fashion and experiment with other treadlings such as flame point, honeycomb and on opposites.

Prerequisite: Weaving 1 or equivalent.  Must be able to independently warp and dress a loom.

Students should bring:  Students should bring: a pre-warped loom. The instructor will provide the threading draft before the workshop.

The warp should be sett at 20 e.p.i. and should be in a neutral colour, preferably pale. Students should bring enough of the warp yarn for the ground weft. 8/2 or 10/2 unmercerized or mercerized cotton is a good choice.

Students will need three colours for the pattern weft. These colours should go well together and show up well against the ground cloth. This weft must be twice as thick as the warp yarn. 8/4 or 5/2 unmercerized or mercerized cotton work well for this. 8/2 wool is also a good choice. It is also possible to double 8/2 cotton, but this requires more fussing.

Also required: notebook, pencils, measuring tape, darning needle, straight pins and weights for repairing broken warp threads.

(NB: Table looms may be borrowed from the Guild for the workshop.  Arrangements to pick up a loom must be made with the Weaving Rental coordinator rentals@ovwsg.com well in advance of the workshop.  A refundable deposit, in the form of a cheque, is required in order to remove equipment from Heartwood House. Non members using guild looms MUST return them at the end of the workshop.)
